gcsfuse with hierarchical namespace still needs the implicit-dirs mount option

According to the docs, the --implicit-dirs flag is not necessary with hierarchical buckets enabled. However, when an object is created outside the gcsfuse mount, for example by copying a folder with contents using gsutil, neither the folder nor the contents appear in the gcsfuse mount, unless the --implicit-dirs is specified.

From the docs

HNS-enabled buckets eliminates the need for --implicit-dirs flag. HNS buckets inherently understand directories, so gcsfuse does not need to simulate directories using placeholder objects ( 0-byte objects ending with '/' ). Users will see consistent directory listings with or without the flag.

Would be great if this behavior is mentioned in the docs.

i have tried the following command: gsutil cp -r test gs://bucketName. test is a folder which has sub-folders and files inside it.
I am able to view the data in gcsfuse mounted directory without --implicit-dirs flag.

Can you share the repro steps.

It does indeed work with plain gcsfuse commands.

The problem appears in the gcsfuse GKE CSI driver, so I'll close the discussion here.

Hierarchial namespace buckets are supported by gcsfuse v2.5.0 which is available on GKE versions > 1.31.1-gke.1621000.
Please check your GKE version.
