Need help setting up Lychee v7

Hi all,

I have installed Lychee v7 via the softaculous installer. But I am having a few issues.

First it seems I have to be logged in to Lychee to be able to view the gallery, i cannot seem to find a way of stopping the login screen from displaying if I am not logged in.

I tried the Lychee demo before installing it, the demo does not have that issue, you can see the gallery without logging in (thats what I want).

I even tried copying the demos settings to my installation, it made no difference, I still cannot see the gallery as it requires a login first.

So how do I disable the login screen so visitors can see the gallery without having to log in like they show on the demo version? (I dont want them to sign up for a account either, I just want a gallery without the login screen showing).

Lychee is private by default, you need to set each album to public (or you can set in the settings that created albums are public by default).
If all albums are private, then there is nothing that you can do aside from ... logging in. :)

That was very helpful, I found the setting under Admin/ Bulk Album Edit, and turned on the folders to public, and that allowed me to bypass the login screen for viewers. So that is all good now thanks to your help.

Now for my next issue I hope you or someone can help me with ( there is always more than one :) )

I can upload mp4 videos ok, I can watch the videos ok, but no thumbnails are shown for the videos.

I have read I need to install ffmpeg on the server ? (if that is correct), I see on the demo under settings I need to install ffmpeg to usr/bin.

Is ffmpeg the same version that you install on your computer ? or is it a special version for servers (if that is the correct word)

Also exiftool is required for plugins to Write Metadata (but I dont think I need that).

here is my server info, it looks like it is using Linux, so I presume I need the Linux verson of ffmpeg ? (I am new to all this,, its a steep learning curve, and I am having to look every other word up as I try to follow instructions) :)

In theory, ffmpeg is the same as in any linux distro, it does not specifically has to be in /usr/bin, it can be somewhere else but ideally it should be in one of the $PATH env variable (hence the possibility to set the path).
Usually Lychee uses command -v to try to figure that one out.
If it is set to disabled, you can set the value to 2 which should retrigger a search.

It is super cool that you are leaning to get a hang on linux, the curve is a bit steep at first, but it tends to flatten nicely afterwards.
I am not sure what distribution you are running underneath, but if it is Debian (which would be my goto) it would be apt install ffmepg to install it (if not present).

exiftool is used to extract data from images, we do not use it to write things to the image, it gives a better range of format supported than the native php-exif extension.
