Make this course more theory driven

Something I noticed in today's git course is that some people want the full academic treatment of version control systems out of which git emerges as an implementation, and some people want to know how to use the tool. I'm proposing making this the deep dive course, and using the Software Carpentry course for teaching "git/github the tools".
