I'm trying to run npx @elevenlabs/cli@latest components add voice-picker

and I get Error: npx is not available.

when I do npm/npx/node versions I get:

Thanks for reporting! I could not reproduce this yet, but the error originates in elevenlabs/cli, where we check if the user does have npx available. It seems that in your case npx is not available in the process spawned by npx.

How did you install node/npm/npx? Via the official node installer, nvm or something else?

As a temporary workaround, a few things might help:

• use pnpm dlx instead of npx (requires pnpm)
• install the ElevenLabs cli globally with npm install -g @elevenlabs/cli
• Install nodejs (and npm) in a different way. For example using nvm as shown on the website

Hi @kaidensimon , I tried to reproduce your issue on this environment:

1. Apple M1 Max
2. Node v-24.12.0.
3. npm 11.6.2
4. npx 11.6.2

But the component is installed successfully.

Based on the error you shared, I expect it's not from ElevanLabs Ui but from the npx/npm/node on your machine

Verified on Windows 11 (build 26200), Node 22.12.0, npm 8.2.0. @elevenlabs/cli@0.4.0 reproduces the exact error from this thread via npx ("Error: npx is not available. Please install Node.js/npm.") while 0.5.5 (published Jul 6) passes the detection and proceeds to install; the published dist now spawns the npx probe with shell:true, which resolves npx.cmd on Windows. So the original bug was real, Windows-specific, and is fixed as of the current release. This and #65 look closeable.
Note: the install currently fails downstream with a registry 429, which is unrelated to npx detection; reported separately in #80
