Symbols picker like https://github.com/nvim-telescope/telescope-symbols.nvim

This is the only thing I miss from telescope.

Different mappings could be used to search among a different set of symbols (e.g., Math, LaTeX, etc.) or filter them in some way in the picker.

Seconded; that's the sole thing that keeps me on telescope. It need not be as full-featured; basically all that's required is a picker that reads a json (or Lua) file with a table of description -> unicode symbol (e.g., https://github.com/nvim-telescope/telescope-symbols.nvim/blob/master/data/telescope-sources/julia.json) that can be called in insert mode(!) and inserts the selection after(!) the cursor. (I believe that the action for the last part already exists, but in telescope it took a lot of effort to get this right in all manner of edge cases, in particular at the start and end of a line, with and without virtualedit.)

Snacks picker doesn't have the concept of columns like telescope.

The format is similar to virt_text, with that difference that chunks can also be actual extmarks with a col.

@drowning-cat that custom format function is not correct though :)

Adding this format and then changing the layout width will get you what you want.

But if you're not providing categories anyway, then just change the width of the layout. No need to have a custom format function for that.

Sorry, I don't get it. Why not? It gets the default format return with Snacks.picker.format.icon and picks the first and fifth items, providing the same output with a little overhead, though it relies on the default formatter code, which may change.
