How to apply custom style to a placeholder?

The only thing that I found is to uby selector for contenteditable with the :not([role="textbox"]) (since the regular items inside conteneditable have the role="textbox" attribute.).

  .contentEditable {
    // style placeholder
    &:not([role="textbox"]) {
      color: $basic-dark-48;
    }

But I don't like negating something to access something specific.. Is there a better way to style the placeholder text?

Happy to accept a PR that adds a static CSS class name to that element (like the root one), it's going to be useful. here's the line:
