I used to use Joplin before switching to trilium and one of the things i remembered most was the long sync times between devices. |

It’s fast on wired networks, but over wireless, Joplin falls on it’s face, needs protocol redesign to compete. |

@networkr0 , sounds nice. What are you using for the mobile app? The native APK we haven't officially released yet or TriliumDroid? |

I had an interesting little foray into Note taking and have made some changes based on recent observations.
First, what set me down this path of discovery… The new lawnmower made me buy a tablet, not that I needed a tablet, but there alot cheaper than phones.
The new tablet is pretty cool, so I loaded it up with Joplin Notes, a repository where alot of my thoughts get jotted down, etc. The first thing I noticed is that the Joplin app on the tablet took forever to synchronize with the server.
Then I remembered the experience I had while trying to set up my Mom's boss with Wi-Fi at the accounting office some years back and the database calls, which traveled over the network, took forever when compared to their wired counterparts. The conclusion was that certain types of database-like network traffic performed very poorly over wifi. I've concluded that Joplin Notes also falls into that category.
Anyway, as a side-by-side comparison, I decided to export from Joplin to Trilium and try that on the tablet. Voila, almost instantaneous synchronization, doesn't work the same way at all over the network, and Trilium Notes is better suited toward the wireless protocols.
Just an update, but if you might use notes that way I do, both PC based and Mobile based and want to stay synchronized on your own self-hosted server, Trilium's the new favorite.
