Claude Sonnet 4 not available for my GitHub Copilot, part of GitHub Student Pack, on all IDEs

My current GitHub account has GitHub Student Pack active, and I can access models like GPT 4.1, GPT 4o, Claude Sonnet 3.5, etc. But Claude Sonnet 4 is nowhere to be seen in both VSCode and JetBrains IDEs (IntelliJ, Rider, Webstorm, etc). I double checked with one of my friends, who also has a GitHub Student Pack active, and he has the newest models available. His UI for selecting model is also different from mine as well.

Is this something that will get solved if I keep waiting (I will eventually get all the models)? Or is there something wrong with my account? Thanks for any help in advance!

Hi! Thanks for raising this.
GitHub Copilot’s model access (like Claude Sonnet 4) often rolls out gradually and may vary slightly based on region, account type, or backend settings. Even if you and your friend both have the GitHub Student Pack, feature availability can differ due to A/B testing or phased rollouts.
Things to try:
->Make sure your IDE plugins are up to date.
->Log out and log back into Copilot in the IDE.
->Check if you have the latest version of GitHub Copilot Labs installed.
If the UI still doesn't match and Claude Sonnet 4 isn’t available, it’s best to contact GitHub Support directly — they can verify your account's feature flags.
It’s not necessarily a bug, just staggered access. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the answer! While I understand model access roll out gradually, not simultaneously for everyone, I figured out my problem existed because I didn't redeem my GitHub Copilot Pro coupon. I never thought to do this as you didn't have to do this for past Student Pack. After redeeming and enabling the models, I can see them in my IDE now.

sir,
I am currently facing an issue with GitHub Copilot in VS Code since last night. When I try to select certain models in the Copilot interface, it displays the message “Contact your admin,” even though this is my personal GitHub account and I am not part of any organization or enterprise account.

My GitHub account has an active GitHub Student Developer Pack, and Copilot Pro benefits are enabled. Previously, everything was working correctly and I was able to use Copilot without any issues. I am currently working as an intern, and Copilot has been very helpful for my development tasks.

However, after the recent updates, several Copilot models are no longer accessible in VS Code and show the “Contact your admin” message. I have already tried multiple troubleshooting steps, including restarting VS Code, reinstalling the Copilot extensions, signing out and signing back into GitHub, clearing credentials, and verifying that my Copilot Student plan is active.

Despite these steps, the issue still persists.

Could you please check if there is any problem with my Copilot account configuration or if this change is related to a recent update affecting personal or student accounts?
