I moved off of Twitter a few years ago just around the time when it started completely closing down. Now that the API has been restricted, services like XCancel have been taken down, and no one can access the actual site contents without creating an account (often requiring a phone number), I think it would be a good time to move communications to a more open platform (that may also be open source).
The best options for Forward Email would probably be Bluesky and/or Mastodon.
I'm unsure of what fediverse (mastodon) homeserver Forward Email would want to apply for, as many are blocked by other instances for poor moderation and whatnot.
It's a much easier case for Bluesky, where Forward Email could just sign up at https://bsky.app and later change its handle to the https://forwardemail.net domain (https://bsky.social/about/blog/4-28-2023-domain-handle-tutorial). The data host is irrelevant to most in this case, but an account could be created on another PDS like https://selfhosted.social/ instead, with all the same accessibility.
The manager of relevant accounts could also make use of a crossposting tool like https://github.com/blacktop/xpost to post on all of the aforementioned platforms, so stragglers still left of Twitter can still get the same announcements like they have in the past.
Due to the open nature of the AT Protocol (which powers Bluesky) and Mastodon, an account could setup bridging through https://fed.brid.gy/ to distribute posts instead.
