Removed
./data/Additional/test72921.xsd

./data/IdentityConstraint/idZ009b.xsd
per request from Zafar Abbas because of legacy copyright statements
Changed all links to data from controlFiles to
a) use / instead of \
b) begin with ../
> sed '/xlink:href=.data/s/\\/\//g;/xlink:href=.data/s/href="/href="..\//' \
-i *.xml
Moved all data directories to initial l.c. version:
> while read u l; do for d in $u*; do mv $d $l${d#$u*}; done; done

Moved all ...z00... data files to ...Z00...
> for f in ../data/*/*z0* ; do mv $f ${f%*z*}Z${f#*z*}; done
Moved some ..c0.. files to ..C0..:
> for f in ../data/additional/*c0* ; do mv $f ${f%*c*}C${f#*c*}; done
Changed initial case of many links to data from control files:
> while read p u l; do sed "/href=.*data/s/data\/$u/data\/$l/" -i ${p}_w3c.xml; done

Checked all data references (thus the above moves):
> for f in *.xml; do lxprintf -e instanceDocument '%s\n' '@xlink:href' $f | while read r; do if [ \! -s $r ]; then echo $f x $r; fi ; done ; done
> for f in *.xml; do lxprintf -e schemaDocument '%s\n' '@xlink:href' $f | while read r; do if [ \! -s $r ]; then echo $f x $r; fi ; done ; done
Discovered that there were a number of illformed docs, some not used,
moved them all:
> for d in *; do (cd $d; mkdir illformed; for f in *; do if rxp -s $f 2>/dev/null; then : ;else mv $f illformed; fi; done ) ; done
Oops -- that moved the Facets and Infoset subdirs of datatypes to illformed!
Moved back, ran above again one level down, found nothing
and re-checked for missing data references -- none!
Detected all UTF-16 byte-order marks and converted to UTF-8:
> find . -type f | xargs perl -nle 'print $ARGV if /^\377\376/;' | while read f; do echo $f; rxp -c utf-8 $f > tmp; mv tmp $f; done

schemaLoc is trickier:

...v.x{sd,ml} seem to be duplicate commented versions of valid test cases
...e.x{sd,ml} seem to be duplicate commented versions of invalid test cases
...i.xml seem to reference ...v.xsd
...i.xsd seem to be duplicate commented versions of ??? test cases
Checked that they aren't siblings of something that's a test case:
> egrep '[eiv]\.xml' /tmp/xf | cut -d ' ' -f 1 | while read f; do x=${f##*/}; egrep ${x%.xml} controlFiles/*.xml; done
So can all be deleted:
> egrep '[eiv]\.' /tmp/xf | cut -d ' ' -f 1 | xargs -n 100 rm
> egrep -v '[eiv]\.' /tmp/xf | egrep -v illformed | wc

All of the files below can be deleted with the exception of ones below:
data/complexType/ctZ013c.xml
data/complexType/ctZ013d.xml
These two files should be added as a test group under ComplexType.xml.
Both of these should be marked as 'invalid' instances according to the
schema ctz013.xsd. The new test groups to be added would be:

To actually run stuff, three cases:
1) Schema, no instance
> lxprintf -e 'testGroup[schemaTest and not(instanceTest)]' '%s\n' schemaTest/schemaDocument/@xlink:href Attribute_w3c.xml | while read s; do xsvDev -i $s ; done
2) Schema and instance

3) Instance, no schema
> lxprintf -e 'testGroup[not(schemaTest) and instanceTest]' '%s\n' instanceTest/instanceDocument/@xlink:href Attribute_w3c.xml | while read i; do xsvDev $i ; done
Whoops, should have checked that every file in db exists!
> dumpDB.py reffed.db | cut -d ' ' -f 1 | while read f; do if [ \! -f $f ]; then echo $f; fi; done | sort -u > /tmp/xxf
This differs a bit from the original list above (yyf):

Implemented Zafar's suggestions wrt surplus files [see XYZZY above]:
with data\ -> data/, etc.
Done, thereby adding 3 instances:
> dumpDB.py reffed.db | cut -d ' ' -f 2 | sort | uniq -c

18 nnsls

Consistency check:
> find data -type f | lookupDB.py reffed.db -p 2>&1 >/dev/null | egrep -v illformed | egrep -v '~' | cut -d ' ' -f 1 > /tmp/nxf
> egrep -v '[eiv]\.' /tmp/xf | egrep -v illformed | egrep -v '~' | cut -d ' ' -f 1 | diff -bw - /tmp/nxf
9,10d8
< data/complexType/ctZ013c.xml
< data/complexType/ctZ013d.xml
52d49
< data/particles/particlesZ040.xml
> wc /tmp/nxf
216 216 6380 /tmp/nxf
So then delete all those.
> xargs rm < /tmp/nxf
Time to get rid of illformed:
> find data -type d -name illformed | xargs rm -rf
Now no superfluous files:
> find data -type f | lookupDB.py reffed.db -p 2>&1 >/dev/null | cut -d ' ' -f 1 | wc

Turning to missing files, Zafar says:
------
I am attaching a zip file containing missing files. Some of the ones not
included are:
annotations/annotA013.xsd x _annotA013.xsd
annotations/annotA014.xsd x _annotA014.xsd
annotations/annotB019.xsd x _annotA013.xsd
annotations/annotB020.xsd x _annotA014.xsd
annotations/annotB025.xsd x foo.xsd
-------------------------------------
These can stay missing. This is testing location of annotations at
different locations in the document. Schema Location in this case can
continue to fail to resolve.
schema/schZ006_b.xsd x dataset.xsd
----------------------------------
You can delete this file: schema/schZ006_b.xsd, It is not referenced in
a test group.
------
Zip file contains:
data/additional/test74789_b1.xsd
data/additional/test74789_b.xsd
data/additional/test74789_c1.xsd

data/wildcards/wildZ011c.xsd
Recovered one intentionally ill-formed doc which had been deleted:
data/additional/test72702.imp
Unilaterally edited schemaZ006_b.xsd to point to schemaZ006.xsd, per
description in testSet:
TEST :schema collection and schema location : test redefine with
schemaLocation pointing to itself
Could be it should point literally to itself, asked Zafar.
Left with only _one_ suspicious missing file, all the rest look
intentional or, per Zafar, harmless (_annot... ones):

Now considering comments from public-xml-schema-testsuite
I'm taking the old reports, checking them against the new contribution
to see if the relevant test is still there and the complained-of
aspect hasn't changed, and if it is and it hasn't, running XSV as a
quick sanity check:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-xml-schema-testsuite/2005Jun/0000.html
attKb018 - schema - expected: invalid
result: valid

stA003, stC007, stD003, stE003 - all schemata - expected: invalid
result: valid
reason: Duplicate IDs in separated schema documents are not
violating the ID constraint.
All show as expected: valid in new contribution
stC003 - schema - expected: valid

ctA014, ctA015, ctA023, ctA024 (all schemata)

All show as expected: valid in new contribution
ctA029, ctC003, ctF003 (all schemata)
expected: invalid
result : valid
reason : Duplicate IDs in separated schema documents are not
violating the ID constraint.
All show as expected: valid in new contribution
ctF006 (schema)
expected: valid
result : invalid
reason : violates derivation-ok-restriction (5.4.1.2);
"complex type 'fooType': If the content type is
'mixed', then the content type of the base type must
also be 'mixed'."
Shows as expected: invalid in new contribution
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-xml-schema-testsuite/2005Jun/0005.html
elemJ001:
expected: valid
result : invalid
reason : violates p-props-correct (2.2)
"Element '{http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema}element',
attribute 'maxOccurs': The value must be greater than
or equal to 1."
This test has been removed, as far as I can tell.
elemQ019:
expected: invalid
result : valid
reason : refers probably to cvc-elt (5.1.2), but
a "fixed" value constraint, does not disallow an empty
value in the instance.
Shows as expected: valid in new contribution
elemT014.v
expected: valid
result : invalid
reason : violates cvc-elt (4.3)
"Element 'fooTest',
attribute '{http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance}type':
The type definition 'myUnion', specified by xsi:type, is
blocked or not validly derived from the type definition of
the element declaration."
Target schema is changed to be anyType, so xsi:type is allowed.

MSXMLSchema1-0-20020116.testSet
---------------------------------
line 41904: idZ003, no files specified
fixed in new contribution
SunXMLSchema1-0-20020116.testSet
--------------------------------
idc001.nogen.n00 should be valid or idc001.nogen.v01 should be
invalid depending on whether BookCatalogue.xsd is supposed to be there
or not... Probably all refs should be idc001.nogen.xsd instead
Indeed, fixed in the new contribution
xsd003b.xsd - Should be invalid as:
there is no xsd:number type.
src-attribute_group.3 Circular reference to
attribute group definition 'attGroup'
Changed to xsd:decimal in new contribution
--------------------------
So the net-net is that we have only two cases where I think there's a
live issue which the new contribution hasn't fixed:
attKb018 - schema - expected: invalid
result: valid
reason: 'attributeFormDefault' is not set, thus the value of the
targetNamespace is 'absent'.
XSV: valid
attKc018 - schema - expected: invalid
result: valid
reason: 'attributeFormDefault' is not set, thus the value of
the targetNamespace is 'absent'.
XSV: valid
Queried ms, Zafar replied:
These schemas are marked invalid since the targetNamespace is set to
http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance which is a known namespace
containing the xsi components. So the Microsoft schema processors
treat such schemas as invalid.
I disagree, and have
a) flipped the expected to 'valid' for those two tests;
b) added two further tests, attKb018a and attKc018a, with copies of
the respective schemas changed to have
attributeFormDefault and form, respectively, set to 'qualified', and
expected 'invalid'
