Provide a tool for converting various input formats into a DCAT JSON file #5478

Closed as not planned

Description

@neilmb

Feature/what we're after

Many agencies have metadata in various input formats but they can't make it available for harvesting because it isn't in DCAT format. We could provide a tool that runs in the browser and can take a file upload and produce a
valid JSON file from that input.

Anticipated/hypothesized benefits

  • Agencies can produce more, better metadata using this tool to convert data that they already have.
  • This would get us started on a pile of possibilities for translation that could help as we change JSOM schemas and deprecate various XML formats.

Measurements/metrics

  • Number of uses of this tool

References/background

  • This is based on feedback from CDOs of very small agencies
  • They were looking for ways to turn spreadsheets into JSON
  • This is also a natural place to hang a DCAT 1.1 to DCAT US 3 translator
  • We could use our existing transformer service to back this, at least for ISO19115 to DCAT 1.1 translation
