Description

@SueValente

What

Add a "Report Problem" button on dataset pages that allows public users to send feedback directly to the dataset contact person with optional additional details.

Why

Users discover data quality issues, broken links, or outdated information but currently have no easy way to report problems directly to the data provider.

Done When

  • "Report Problem" button added to dataset pages near contact information
  • Clicking button opens modal/form/slideout accessible feature with dataset context pre-filled
  • Includes datagovhelp@gsa.gov cc, dataset title, URL, and contact email automatically
  • User can add optional additional details about the problem
  • Email sent to dataset contact (e.g., covidrsv-net@cdc.gov) with problem report
  • User receives confirmation message thanking them for feedback
  • Includes basic spam/abuse protection

Notes

Example Contact Info:

User Flow:

  1. User clicks "Report Problem with This Dataset"
  2. Modal shows: "Thank you for your feedback. We will contact [CONTACT NAME] about this dataset. Do you have any additional information to add?"
  3. Optional text box for details
  4. Submit sends email to dataset contact with dataset info + user details. Datagovhelp@gsa.gov is cc'ed.
  5. User sees confirmation

This creates direct accountability between data users and data providers while reducing support burden on data.gov team.
