Right now we've got a very basic schema to tell file endianness - one that we can potentially improve. Either based on checking the first few values for a valid range or similar. Hasn't caused an issue yet, and any issues could be overcome with forced endianness. Worth leaving a breadcrumb here for when/if it does come up.
