🎯 What: Missing edge case test in AbstractReactiveFeignConfigurator and fix for a bug in the compareTo method where comparing an object to itself would throw an IllegalArgumentException.
📊 Coverage: Added unit tests in AbstractReactiveFeignConfiguratorTest covering same instance comparison, different instance with same order comparison (exception expected), and different order comparison.
Result: Improved test coverage and fixed a bug that violated the Comparable contract.

PR created automatically by Jules for task 14191844338616150843 started by @Periecle

- Add unit tests for compareTo edge cases
- Fix bug where same-instance comparison threw IllegalArgumentException
- Clean up temporary exploration scripts

Summary of Changes

Hello, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request enhances the AbstractReactiveFeignConfigurator by addressing a critical bug in its compareTo method, ensuring it correctly handles self-comparison as per the Comparable interface contract. Concurrently, it significantly improves the test suite with new unit tests that validate the compareTo method's behavior across various scenarios, thereby increasing code robustness and preventing future regressions.

Highlights

  • Bug Fix: Corrected a bug in AbstractReactiveFeignConfigurator.compareTo where comparing an object to itself would incorrectly throw an IllegalArgumentException, violating the Comparable contract.
  • Test Coverage: Introduced new unit tests for AbstractReactiveFeignConfigurator.compareTo to cover edge cases, including self-comparison, different instances with the same order, and different orders.
Changelog
  • feign-reactor-spring-configuration/src/main/java/reactivefeign/spring/config/AbstractReactiveFeignConfigurator.java
    • Added a check to compareTo to return 0 when comparing an object to itself.
  • feign-reactor-spring-configuration/src/test/java/reactivefeign/spring/config/AbstractReactiveFeignConfiguratorTest.java
    • Added shouldCompareSameInstance test.
    • Added shouldCompareDifferentOrder test.
    • Added shouldThrowExceptionWhenSameOrder test.
    • Introduced TestConfigurator inner class for testing.
Activity
  • The pull request was automatically created by Jules for a task initiated by @Periecle.

Code Review

This pull request correctly fixes a bug in the compareTo method of AbstractReactiveFeignConfigurator that violated the Comparable contract when an object was compared to itself. The addition of unit tests is also a great improvement. I've suggested adding one more test case to ensure the transitivity property of the Comparable contract is also verified, which would make the test suite more robust.

.isInstanceOf(IllegalArgumentException.class)
.hasMessageContaining("Same order for different configurators");

The tests cover reflexivity and anti-symmetry from the Comparable contract, which is great. To make the test suite more comprehensive, I suggest also adding a test for transitivity ((x.compareTo(y) > 0 && y.compareTo(z) > 0) implies x.compareTo(z) > 0). This will ensure all key properties of the contract are verified.

    @Test
    public void shouldBeTransitive() {
        TestConfigurator configurator1 = new TestConfigurator(1);
        TestConfigurator configurator2 = new TestConfigurator(2);
        TestConfigurator configurator3 = new TestConfigurator(3);

        // Verifies that if c1 < c2 and c2 < c3, then c1 < c3
        assertThat(configurator1.compareTo(configurator2)).isLessThan(0);
        assertThat(configurator2.compareTo(configurator3)).isLessThan(0);
        assertThat(configurator1.compareTo(configurator3)).isLessThan(0);
    }

Thank you for the suggestion! I've added the shouldBeTransitive test case to ensure the transitivity property of the Comparable contract is also verified.
