On Android, pressing the hardware Back button while the emoji picker was open in the room composer left the room instead of closing the picker. The composer's Back handler only handled the emoji search field, so with just the picker open it let the event through and the navigator popped the room. The handler now also closes the picker and releases the space the picker reserved, so the composer returns to the bottom of the screen and the system keyboard does not come back. A second Back leaves the room as before, and Back with nothing open is unchanged.

Closing the picker alone left a keyboard-sized blank gap when it had opened over the system keyboard, because the picker reuses the keyboard's space and the hook only released it for the fixed 250 height case. The handler therefore calls a new
collapseEmojiKeyboardinuseEmojiKeyboard, which releases the height and closes the picker without callingfocus, so the keyboard stays down.resetKeyboardnow reuses it with the same behavior.MessageComposer.test.tsx(with its snapshot) anduseEmojiKeyboard.test.tsxmoved into__tests__/because their sources are touched; only their imports changed. The new tests cover the Back handler for the picker, the search field and nothing open, and the released height in the hook.Verified on a Pixel_9 emulator with a real keyboard: before, Back closes the room; after, it closes only the picker and a second Back leaves.
iOS is not affected. The only new behavior is the extra branch in the
useBackHandlercallback, and React Native's iOSBackHandleris a no-op, so that branch cannot run there. The header back button and the swipe-back gesture go through React Navigation and are unchanged.resetKeyboardnow callscollapseEmojiKeyboardbut makes the same calls in the same order as before.Verified with the fix on an iPhone 17 simulator (iOS 26.5): keyboard and emoji picker open and close, emoji insert, emoji search, the
