Summary

  • When a PR URL gets its card, the URL used to be removed from the sentence, leaving …: . or a stray ..
  • The sentence now keeps a short owner/repo#N link where the URL was. The card below still carries the detail.
  • Tests run through the real react-markdown (V2MessageRow.realMarkdown.test.tsx), plus the mocked card tests.

TASK-382. Gate: sable.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

When a PR URL gets its card, the URL is removed from the text. That left
'…: .' or a stray ' . ' where it had been. Replace the URL with a short
owner/repo#N link instead, so the sentence keeps its shape and the card
below carries the detail. Tests run through the real react-markdown.

📝 Walkthrough

V2MessageRow now converts GitHub pull-request URLs in message text to clickable owner/repo#number references. The original URL remains the link target, surrounding text and punctuation remain intact, and PR cards continue to render separately.

prUrlsToRefLinks replaces matching GitHub PR URLs with Markdown links labeled owner/repo#number. V2MessageRow uses the replacement when PR references are present. Tests check rendered links, targets, surrounding text, and PR-card behavior.

Do not replace URLs inside existing Markdown links.

For [review](https://github.com/o/r/pull/12), this replacement produces [review]([o/r#12](https://github.com/o/r/pull/12)). The existing link no longer has a valid Markdown destination. Limit conversion to bare PR URLs in prose, and add a real-renderer test for an existing Markdown PR link. React-markdown renders valid Markdown links as anchors, but this replacement changes the link syntax before rendering. (github.com)

Preserve the full PR URL as the link destination.

parseGithubPrUrls(afterFiles) detects /files, query, and fragment variants even when the message contains only that PR URL. The row condition then calls prUrlsToRefLinks. The current replacement renders:

  • /files: [o/r#12](https://github.com/o/r/pull/12)/files
  • Query: [o/r#12](https://github.com/o/r/pull/12)?tab=files
  • Fragment: [o/r#12](https://github.com/o/r/pull/12)#issuecomment-1

The anchor therefore points to the overview, and the suffix remains outside the link. Capture the suffix for the destination while keeping owner/repo#N as the label. Add real-Markdown tests for all three variants.

#2508 TASK-382 at e4bcf98 — GATE: HOLD

The bare PR URL tests pass through real react-markdown, and CI is green. The change fixes the reported Review: URL. and mid-sentence bare-URL cases.

Blocking case: an existing Markdown link is also parsed as a PR URL and rewritten inside its destination. See [the PR](https://github.com/Team-Commonly/commonly/pull/12) for details. becomes See [the PR]([Team-Commonly/commonly#12](https://github.com/Team-Commonly/commonly/pull/12)) for details. The real react-markdown renderer gives “the PR” an href of %5BTeam-Commonly/commonly#12%5D(https://github.com/Team-Commonly/commonly/pull/12), rather than the GitHub URL. The new tests cover bare URLs but miss this existing-link path. Preserve a valid destination for an already-linked PR URL and pin it in the real-renderer suite.

Credit: Swift kept the bare URL's sentence and punctuation intact while rendering a short PR reference.

GATE: HOLD

prUrlsToRefLinks rewrote every PR URL, including one already inside
[label](url), which nested into a second link. Skip URLs preceded by
(, < or [, the same guard linkifyBareUrls uses. Pinned in the real
renderer suite.

#2508 TASK-382 at 6f78263 — GATE: PASS

The previous HOLD is cleared. The PR URL replacement now skips URLs immediately inside Markdown link syntax, so [the PR](https://github.com/Team-Commonly/commonly/pull/12) keeps its label and GitHub href. The real react-markdown test pins that case alongside the bare URL sentence and punctuation cases. The production delta from the held head is the skip guard; the short owner/repo#N link remains for bare PR URLs that receive a card.

Frontend tests, CodeQL, all backend shards, service tests, E2E, and Test & Coverage pass at this head. CodeRabbit was still pending when stamped. I found no remaining defect in the requested behavior.

Credit: Swift fixed the malformed Markdown link and added a real-renderer regression.

Preserve PR URLs inside code spans.

When a message contains a bare PR URL and an inline-code PR URL, this call converts both. The inline code then displays the generated Markdown syntax instead of the original URL. Mask code spans before PR-link conversion, and restore them before rendering.

210-210: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Skip PR URLs anywhere inside a Markdown link label.

The guard checks only the character immediately before the URL. For [review https://github.com/o/r/pull/12](https://example.com), it replaces the URL inside the label and creates nested link syntax. The rendered label or outer link can then change. Detect the enclosing Markdown link before replacing its label content.

Keep PR URL suffixes inside the generated link.

For https://github.com/o/r/pull/12/files or https://github.com/o/r/pull/12#discussion_r123, the match ends at 12. The suffix remains as text, and the link opens the PR root instead of the requested tab or discussion. Include a valid path, query, or fragment suffix in the link destination.
