What changes are you trying to make? (e.g. Adding or removing code, refactoring existing code, adding reports)

Completed Assignment 3, including:

  • two visualizations in png format
  • raw data files
  • one jupyter notebook for visualization done in python
  • two .md files for each visualization

What did you learn from the changes you have made?

Learned how to use Python to create different visualization, particularly specifying various elements of a chart (e.g., unit intervals for axes, colours, bar widths, etc.). I also learned the importance of accessibility considerations when creating visualizations.

Was there another approach you were thinking about making? If so, what approach(es) were you thinking of?

I initially considered a stacked bar chart to show totals more clearly for the deaths by causes dataset, but switched to grouped bars so year over year differences per cause are easier to compare.

Were there any challenges? If so, what issue(s) did you face? How did you overcome it?

The dataset included 'Suppressed' string values in the count column which caused some errors in the beginning. Fixed by filtering those rows out before converting Count to numeric. Bar ordering also defaulted to 2024 first, but resolved by reversing the pivot column order.

How were these changes tested?

The python script was run to confirm it reads the CSV, cleans the data, and outputs the visualization as desired.
