Sync Laravel updates: refreshed attributes, model defaults and queue fixes - #631
Conversation
Redis URLs with the valkey:// or valkeys:// scheme were not recognized. The URL parser left the scheme as an unknown driver, which the Redis configuration dropped, so a valkeys:// URL connected over plain TCP and failed with a read error against a TLS endpoint. The parser now maps valkey to tcp and valkeys to tls, matching the existing redis and rediss aliases. The Redis documentation now mentions the redis, rediss, valkey and valkeys URL schemes. Validation: both upstream URL cases and the alias assertions are ported, including the Hypervel flushState check. The support and Redis unit suites pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61635 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
On SQLite, schema:dump wrote the shadow tables of virtual tables such as FTS5 and R*Tree (posts_data, posts_idx and so on). The sqlite3 CLI refuses to create those names directly, so loading the dump failed with "object name reserved for internal use". The dump now reads pragma main.table_list and removes the shadow tables; SQLite recreates them when the virtual table is loaded. SQLite versions before 3.37 ignore the unknown pragma, so their dumps are unchanged. The CI image had no sqlite3 CLI, so every SQLite schema state integration test was skipped in CI, including the new regression. The image now installs sqlite3. The image rebuilds when this Dockerfile change reaches 0.4, so these tests start running after merge rather than in this pull request's CI. Validation: the upstream unit and integration tests are ported, keeping Hypervel's sqlite3 CLI skip, and both fail without the fix. In the CI image with sqlite3 installed, the SQLite schema state tests and the full SQLite database runner pass. The database unit suite passes. The artisan() test helper returns a pending command or an exit code depending on whether console output mocking is enabled, so tests had to toggle mocking to get one behavior, and static analysis saw a union return type. mockArtisan() always returns a pending command and realArtisan() always runs the command and returns its exit code; artisan() now dispatches to them. The method titles use the current upstream wording. The test case also had a Hypervel-only public command() method that artisan() delegated to. Nothing used it except the DatabaseMigrations rollback hook, and it took a common helper name from every test case: DevCommandTest had to rename upstream's command() helper to devCommand(). The method is removed, DatabaseMigrations calls artisan() as upstream does, and DevCommandTest uses the upstream helper name again. The console testing documentation now covers mockArtisan() and realArtisan(). Also fix a test name typo and an all-caps comment in the changed files. Validation: the three upstream ArtisanCommandTest cases are ported; the upstream unit test return values and rollback expectations were already present. The foundation, console, testing and Testbench suites, the Testbench contract suite, formatting and static analysis pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61588 laravel/framework@e034a5a Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
Generated columns and other database-maintained values were missing after a model was created and stale after it was updated, until the model was refreshed. Models can now list attributes to reload after every write with the Refreshes attribute or the $refreshes property. Inserts, updates, insertOrIgnore saves and increments read those columns back from the write connection. Models without refreshed attributes run no extra query. Hypervel reads only the configured columns as a raw row, so the refresh does not eager load the model's $with or $withCount relations, hydrate a partial model or fire retrieved events on it. A missing row still throws ModelNotFoundException for the model. The refreshed values replace the raw attributes that were already prepared for the write, and every cached cast is cleared. Values from cached accessors and class casts that span several columns can no longer be merged back over the refreshed values, and cast setters are not run again, so encrypted values seen by updated listeners still match the stored ciphertext. Increments do not merge cached casts before their write, so they merge pending cached-object changes before refreshing, which keeps unsaved changes. Also fix an upstream issue: increments synced only the incremented columns' originals, so a changed refreshed column stayed dirty and the next save tried to write the generated column back, which the database rejects. Refreshed attributes are now synced after increments. The attribute accepts its list as a named argument like the other variadic model attributes. The Eloquent documentation covers refreshing attributes after writes. Validation: all upstream cases are ported, with regressions for increments, cached multi-column accessors, pending cached-object changes, the raw refresh query and encrypted values at the updated event. The database unit and integration suites and the SQLite database runner pass, along with formatting and static analysis. Upstream: laravel/framework#61523 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
BatchFinished and BatchCanceled were dispatched with the batch instance loaded before the job finished or the batch was canceled, so listeners saw stale data such as finished() and cancelled() returning false. The events now receive the freshly loaded batch, falling back to the current instance if it can no longer be found, as the then, catch and finally callbacks already do. The lookup stays inside the existing listener checks, so batches without listeners make no extra repository call. Validation: the upstream event assertions are ported and fail without the fix. The bus, queue and queue integration suites pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61644 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
When an application had no routes, or none matched the filters, route:list --json printed an error message instead of JSON, which broke piping the output into JSON tools. It now prints [] in both cases; text output keeps the existing messages. Validation: both upstream tests are ported. The foundation and console suites pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61642 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
Passing --markdown without a value created a plain notification without a Markdown view, because the option was null. The option now defaults to false, so a valueless --markdown uses the default mail.* view name that the interactive prompt already suggests, matching make:mail. Validation: the upstream signature fixture change and integration test are ported. The generator and console suites pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61643 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
EloquentPrunableTest::testPrunesRecords failed once in a parallel file-backed SQLite run with 1000 pruned records instead of 1001, and did not reproduce in repeated runs. pruneAll() reports and continues past exceptions, so the failure hid its cause. The test now fakes the exception handler to throw on report, so any exception during pruning fails with its original message and trace. This improves diagnostics; the cause of that failure is still unknown.
SchemaStateTest's setUp only called remote('migrate:install') without running the process, so it did nothing. The override is removed; each test creates the schema it needs and tearDown is unchanged.
Validation: both files pass against an isolated file-backed SQLite database.
Laravel's docs command searches and opens the Laravel documentation, so Hypervel intentionally does not ship it. The omission was not recorded where later ports look. The foundation README now lists it under Differences From Laravel with a link to the Hypervel documentation, and the command list notes where it would be registered. This covers the only file changed by laravel/framework#61660, the docs command test, which has no Hypervel counterpart.
A negative limit whose absolute value exceeded the number of items read ring buffer slots that were never filled, because the buffer only wraps once it is full. take(-5) on three items now returns all three in order, matching Collection::take(). The lazy collection still makes one pass and keeps at most the requested number of items. Validation: the upstream test is ported for both collection classes. The support suite passes. Upstream: laravel/framework#61659 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
queue:retry-batch already skipped IDs whose batch could not be found or had no failed jobs, but it still exited successfully and reported the empty case without naming the batch. It now returns a failure exit code when any batch is skipped, names the batch that has no failed jobs, and builds the isolation mutex name from the same normalized ID list the command processes. Validation: the existing tests are consolidated under the upstream names with exit code assertions, keeping their stricter expectations, and the upstream isolation test is ported. The queue suite passes. Upstream: laravel/framework#61653 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
Many mocked relation tests repeated behavior already covered by integration tests against a real database. Following upstream, the mocked is/isNot tests for BelongsTo, HasOne, MorphOne and MorphTo move into one data-driven comparison test, and the mocked make, create, find, first, createOrFirst and updateOrCreate tests for HasMany, HasOne and MorphOne are removed in favor of integration coverage. Polymorphic integration tests now cover findOrNew, firstOrNew, firstOrCreate, createOrFirst and updateOrCreate with morph keys, and the HasMany create-or-first tests cover calls without values. Two event tests duplicated by container-backed tests are removed. Hypervel-specific coverage is kept. The zero-key comparisons move into the consolidated test for every relation type. Hypervel compares only null as a missing key, so matching empty-string keys compare as equal there. The inverse relation makeMany and createMany tests now also check the number of children, that they are distinct instances and whether they were saved, keeping the stronger assertions from the removed makeMany test. Mock setup and a helper that no remaining test uses are removed. Validation: every removed test was compared with its upstream original and with the remaining coverage. The database, database integration and events suites pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61648 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
Some tests depended on state left behind by other tests. Most of the leaks upstream fixed file by file are already reset after every test in Hypervel, so only the remaining cases change. The resource-guessing tests for collections and paginators create class aliases that cannot be removed, so they now run in a separate process; before this they failed whenever they ran before the matching "cannot be found" test. The empty-string array cast test clears any earlier JSON error first, because the cast returns early without decoding. The deprecation logging test clears its environment variable in tearDown instead of at the end of the test body, where a failure skipped it. Several tests now use upstream's fixes in place of Hypervel-only workarounds: the factory test model defines newFactory() instead of each test registering a factory name guesser, the event dispatcher test boots its model before setting the dispatcher, the relation macro test builds on an in-memory SQLite connection instead of mocking a connection resolver, the prune test creates the table the soft-deleting model needs instead of excluding that model, and the route registrar test uses its own container. The inverse relation test uses its own related stub, and the self-join alias patterns accept multi-digit counters. The upstream Http facade test is restored. It binds the HTTP factory fresh on each resolution, because Hypervel shares unbound classes and the tests would otherwise pass without the facade swapping its fake into the container. Validation: each changed test file passes alone and in random order, and all affected files pass together in several random orders. The database, pagination, routing, testing, validation, support and foundation suites pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61647 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
The uncompromised password check passed the Add-Padding header as a boolean. The HTTP client converts scalar header values to strings, so the request carried "Add-Padding: 1" instead of the documented "true". The header value is now the string "true". Validation: the verifier tests expect the string header, and the validation suite passes. Upstream: laravel/framework#61666 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
Calling createQuietly() on a many-to-many relation fell through to the query builder, which created the related model without attaching it, and createManyQuietly() did not exist. Both are now defined on BelongsToMany and create and attach the models with model events disabled. The return types document plain related models, matching create() and createMany(): attaching does not load a pivot onto the returned models. Validation: a new integration test checks that both methods attach the models with their pivot values and dispatch no creating events; it fails without the change and passes on SQLite, PostgreSQL and MySQL. The type fixtures cover both return types, and the database suites pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61669 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
whereValueBetween() already skips the binding for expression values. The upstream tests now assert the bindings for the where, or-where, not and or-not forms, using strict comparisons. A Hypervel test that checked the same thing for all four methods is removed; the array-flattening and query execution tests remain. Validation: the query builder and binding test files pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61670 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
Merging 13.x into 14.x made pause(), pauseFor() and resume() fall back to the default connection when the connection name is empty, as connection() already does. Hypervel only fell back for null, so queue:pause :emails paused a queue on a connection named "" that no worker checks. An empty name now uses the default connection. The check stays explicit rather than falsy, so a connection named "0" keeps its own pause state. The other conflict resolutions in the merge, and the merge's test fix, were already reflected in Hypervel. Validation: a new test pauses, resumes and pauses for a duration with an empty connection name; it fails without the change. The queue suite passes. Upstream: laravel/framework#61710 laravel/framework@5bf77f3 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
queue:pause and queue:resume already pass the parsed queue and connection to the queue manager in the right order. The upstream test now pauses and resumes redis:emails through the commands and checks the event and the paused state for that connection and queue. Validation: the queue pause command tests pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61701 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
The exception handler fake already forwards isReporting() and buildContextForException() to the handler it wraps. The upstream integration test now checks that a faked handler still returns an exception's own context through the real handler. The existing unit test that checks a true reporting result is forwarded remains. Validation: the Exceptions facade tests pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61702 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
The pause tests already pass the queue before the connection. The Hypervel test showing that resumeAll() keeps individually paused queues paused now uses the upstream name and body, and keeps its paused-queue lookup assertion. Validation: the queue pause and resume tests pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61705 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
Models may define a defaults() method as the runtime equivalent of the $attributes property. Its values are merged over $attributes when a model is constructed, before the original attributes are synced, so new models start clean. Like $attributes, the values are raw and are not cast or mutated. Models hydrated from the database replace them with their stored attributes, and unserialized models keep the attributes they had. The documentation explains the method and notes that it still runs while hydrating query results, so it should stay cheap. With the default empty method the merge adds well under one percent to model hydration. Validation: the upstream model tests are ported. The database, database integration, queue, console, support and support integration suites pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61688 Source: laravel/framework at 7068848dfe48fc3a433598e09ce798799d442a52.
The report() helper always passed its level to the exception handler, even when none was given. Handler mocks that expect the exception and context alone no longer matched report($e) or report($e, $context). The helper now passes the level only when one is given. report_if() and report_unless() go through report(), so they behave the same way. The handler expectations that had been changed to expect a trailing null level go back to the upstream two-argument form. Validation: the upstream helper test is ported. The changed test files and the full parallel suite pass. Upstream: laravel/framework#61750 Source: laravel/framework at 588c1c948c36443a6110c44a07bb58c463e98d27.
Faking the ondemand disk replaces only anonymous Storage::build() results. Hypervel already builds scoped disks and inline read-through sides without going through build(), so they keep their own storage while the fake is active. The upstream scoped disk test is ported, and a read-through test checks that primary writes and fallback reads do not reach the fake. Validation: the Storage facade tests pass. Both tests fail when scoped or inline read-through sides are built through build(). Upstream: laravel/framework#61749 Source: laravel/framework at 588c1c948c36443a6110c44a07bb58c463e98d27.

A view named 0 isn't a realistic view name, and make:mail and Laravel's own getView() treat it the same way, so we're leaving this as is.

Laravel removed this test in the same change. EventsSubscriberTest::testEventSubscribeCanReturnMappings still dispatches three Class@method listeners resolved through the container, so that path stays covered.

This matches Laravel's implementation. A virtual table whose name contains a quote character isn't a realistic schema, so we're keeping the simpler pattern.

A refresh can't supply the configured values when the row no longer exists, so it throws ModelNotFoundException, as a save does and as Laravel's refresh does. Refreshing only when rows were affected wouldn't be reliable: MySQL reports zero affected rows when an update writes values the row already has.

Fixed in faf2def. The queue argument parser now resolves an empty connection to the default, so the commands report the connection that changed.
Pausing, timed pausing and resuming already use the default connection when the connection name is empty. isPaused() and getPausedQueues() only fell back for null, so after pause('emails', '') they read the empty-connection key and reported the queue as active. Both readers now treat an empty name the same way. A connection named "0" keeps its own pause state.
queue:pause and queue:resume parse "connection:queue" arguments. For ":emails" the parser kept the empty connection name, so the commands reported [:emails] even though the default connection's queue changed. The parser now resolves an empty connection segment to the default connection, as it already does for an empty queue segment.
Validation: the empty-connection test also checks both readers, and the parser test covers ":emails". The queue pause/resume and pause command tests pass.
A bare --markdown option now uses the default mail.<name> view, which is also the default view name of make:mail. Creating a notification with the same name as an existing Markdown mailable therefore replaced the mailable's template. make:mail already refuses to overwrite an existing Markdown view; make:notification now does the same, reporting that the view exists and leaving it unchanged. The generated notification still references the view. Validation: a new generator test creates the default view first and checks that it is unchanged and the error is reported. It fails without the check. The notification generator tests pass.
Refreshed attributes were read back by the model's original key. When a save changed the primary key, the update succeeded but the refresh looked for the old key and threw ModelNotFoundException, skipping the updated and saved events. An increment that wrote a new key through its extra values failed the same way, and keyless pivots had the same problem with their foreign and related keys. refreshSavedAttributes() now receives the raw values each write stored: the inserted attributes, the dirty attributes of an update, or the extra and incremented values of an increment. It selects the row through a copy of the model whose original values include them, so custom key selection, such as pivots and permission partitions, still applies, and the live model's original values stay unchanged until the save finishes. A key that was changed on the model but not written by an increment is not used. Extra values win over incremented values, as they do in the statement. Increments also left the extra columns they wrote marked as changed. After moving a key through the extra values, the next save on the same model targeted the old key and silently wrote nothing. Increments now record the extra values they stored as original values. Values refreshed from the database still take precedence, and a value an updating listener changed after the extra values were applied stays pending. The upstream tests that expected extra columns to stay dirty now expect them to be clean. The database README notes the new refreshSavedAttributes() argument for models that override it. Validation: the refresh tests now cover a key-changing save, an increment sequence with a pending key, an extra key changed by an updating listener, a trigger-adjusted refreshed value, follow-on writes on the same model and incrementEach, and a keyless pivot whose related key moves. They fail without the change. The database, database integration, queue, permission, generator and console suites pass, along with formatting and static analysis. The empty-string array cast returns without decoding, so the test's json_last_error() assertion depends on the error state left by earlier tests. The json_decode('[]') call clears that state. Add a short comment so the line is not mistaken for dead code.

Thanks for the update. The changes address the key edge cases described—primary-key changes, increment extras, keyless pivots, empty queue connections, and Markdown view preservation. There are currently no Qodo findings on this PR. |
|
The follow-up changes address the previously identified edge cases: refreshed-attribute queries now use the values written by the current statement, increment extras are synchronized as originals while listener changes remain dirty, empty queue connections are normalized consistently for both writes and reads, and existing Markdown views are preserved. I don’t see an additional actionable issue in this update. |

The increment statement writes the extra values as supplied, without mutators or casts, as Laravel does. The original values now record what the database stored. When a setter transforms the model attribute into something different, the model and the row really do differ, so the attribute staying dirty is accurate: the next save writes the model value. Before this change every extra column stayed dirty and was rewritten on the next save, so this case behaves as it did before, while unchanged extras are no longer rewritten.
