Sync Laravel's real-object test conversions and fix FakeJob release delays - #690
#61663 — Replace mocks with real objects, fakes and in-memory database connections across the framework tests. Use PdoConnection where upstream builds its base Connection, and a Capsule-backed in-memory connection concern in place of upstream's connection-resolver trait, since test cleanup already resets the model connection resolver. Build guards with a real container that holds the request, and expect Hypervel's grouped local-scope constraints in real queries. The migrator tests use resolver and repository fakes, because Hypervel switches connections through the coroutine context instead of the resolver's shared default. Where upstream swaps in a real dispatcher or bus without assertions, keep the typed mocks without expectations so unexpected calls still fail. The queue worker tests use upstream's event and exception handler fakes, and spy on the dispatcher only where a test must intercept dispatches. The direct-connection console test isn't ported, since Hypervel doesn't support ::direct connections.
#61739 (partial) — Include this follow-up's further conversions to the files it shares with #61663, and add its two support files: a console trait for answered output styles and a notification channel spy. Remove the builder scope, where() and cast tests, the connection query-builder test and the model newQuery() test that it deletes, since real-query tests and native return types cover them. Keep the local builder macro test and the array and collection whereKey() and whereKeyNot() tests it deletes, because nothing else covers them. The rest of #61739 will follow in a later PR.
Additional Hypervel Fixes
Store every release delay FakeJob::release() accepts, and compare a recorded date or interval in seconds in assertReleased(). Its property only accepted integers, so releasing the fake with a date or interval threw a TypeError.
Add custom password-column rehash tests for the database and Eloquent user providers, since the real-object rehash tests no longer check that rehashing writes the configured column.
Seed the null MorphTo association test with a key, type and loaded relation, so it proves associate(null) clears them. Upstream's version starts empty.
Keep checks that the password verifier sends its configured timeout and the exact Add-Padding header, which upstream's HTTP fake conversion drops. They were the only coverage of both.
Keep exact counts where the converted tests previously required a single event, job or push, so a duplicate dispatch still fails the test.
Add an HTTP client test that request events aren't dispatched without listeners. The fake conversions removed the only assertions on that guard.
Fix upstream's failed-notification test, whose assertions after the throwing send() never ran. It now catches the prebuilt exception and checks the events afterwards.
Remove dead return statements from InteractsWithQueue::delete() and release().
Formatting, static analysis and the affected tests pass, including the Redis integration tests. CI will run the full suite and supported service matrix.
Note
Fix FakeJob release delay handling and convert test suite to real objects
Converts the test suite from Mockery doubles to real objects across Auth, Database, Queue, Http, Mail, Notifications, and other test areas. Many database and Eloquent tests now run against in-memory SQLite with concrete grammar, processor, and container instances.
Broadens FakeJob::$releaseDelay in FakeJob.php to accept an integer, DateTimeInterface, or DateInterval, and normalizes the recorded delay through secondsUntil in InteractsWithQueue::assertReleased so all delay formats compare correctly.
Adds test infrastructure for the conversions: FakeJob-based queue assertions, ChannelSpy, EventFake/ExceptionHandlerFake usage, and the InteractsWithInMemoryConnection and CreatesAnsweredOutputStyles traits.
Removes trailing bare return statements from InteractsWithQueue::delete() and release(); both methods return void, so behavior is unchanged
Fake queue jobs can now record release delays specified as integers, dates, or intervals.
Tests
Expanded coverage across authentication, queues, databases, events, HTTP, notifications, and other framework components using more realistic scenarios and state-based assertions.
FakeJob::release() accepts DateInterval|DateTimeInterface|int, matching
Laravel's fake, but stored the value in an int property. Releasing the
fake with a date or interval therefore threw a TypeError instead of
recording the delay.
The $releaseDelay property now uses the same union, so direct calls keep
the supplied value. The $failedWith property moves above the constructor
to match upstream's member order.
A data-provided FakeJobTest case covers integer, date and interval
delays and checks the job is marked as released.
Laravel replaced many mocks in the framework test suite with real
objects, fakes and in-memory connections (laravel/framework#61663). A
follow-up rewrote several of the same files further
(laravel/framework#61739). This ports #61663, except the
direct-connection console test, which covers a feature Hypervel does
not support, at the 13.x revision
5d7797528723107cd4f495326838a7d7d67fbb20. It includes the #61739
changes to the files the two pull requests share and the two support
files #61739 adds. The remaining #61739 files are left for a later
port.
Hypervel adaptations:
- Use PdoConnection where upstream builds its base Connection, and a
Capsule-backed InteractsWithInMemoryConnection test concern in place
of upstream's RestoresConnectionResolver, since the test subscriber
already resets the model connection resolver.
- Build guards with a real container that holds the request.
- Expect Hypervel's grouped local-scope constraints in real-query
assertions.
- Use resolver and repository fakes in the migrator tests, because
Hypervel switches connections through the coroutine context instead
of the resolver's shared default.
- Keep typed mocks without expectations where upstream swaps in a real
dispatcher or bus without assertions, so unexpected calls still fail.
- In the queue worker tests, use upstream's event and exception
handler fakes, and switch to a dispatcher spy only in tests that must
intercept dispatches for ordering, listener failures or listener
guards.
Coverage kept, added or corrected:
- Add custom password-column rehash tests for both user providers,
since the real-object rehash tests no longer check the configured
column.
- Keep the local builder macro test and the array and collection
whereKey and whereKeyNot tests that upstream deleted, as nothing else
covers them.
- Seed the null MorphTo association test with a key, type and loaded
relation, so it proves they are cleared.
- Keep the password verifier's timeout and exact padding header checks.
- Add a request-event listener-guard test for the HTTP client, since
the fake conversions removed the only assertions on that guard.
- Catch the prebuilt exception in the failed-notification test, since
upstream's assertions after the throwing call never run.
Verified with php-cs-fixer, PHPStan and the affected test files,
including the Redis integration tests.
The PR replaces many interaction-based test mocks with in-memory SQLite fixtures, concrete framework objects, and fakes across authentication, database, queue, HTTP, notification, and other tests. It broadens FakeJob release-delay values to include date/time objects and intervals. It also removes two early returns from queue interaction methods.
FakeJob::$releaseDelay now accepts an integer, DateTimeInterface, or DateInterval. The release-delay test covers each type. The early returns in delete() and release() are removed.

High-Level Assessment
The selective upstream port is appropriate: real queries and framework fakes test outcomes, while focused mocks remain where unexpected calls or dispatch ordering matter. A literal upstream copy would miss Hypervel’s coroutine connection behavior and remove existing regression coverage.

1. Batch tests miss jobs that never queue 🐞 Bug⚙ Maintainability
Description
testBatchFinishedEventIsDispatched and testBatchStartedEventIsDispatched replace a required bulk
queue call with QueueFake but assert only the resulting events. If Batch::add() stops enqueueing
jobs while still updating the batch counters, both tests can pass without any jobs being pushed.
The deleted expectations required bulk() in both tests. Batch::add() calls bulk(), and the
replacement fake records those jobs, but the new assertions inspect only events.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
The converted batch event tests no longer verify that adding jobs pushes them to the queue.
## Fix Focus Areas
- tests/Bus/BusBatchTest.php[307-360]
## Recommended Fix
Assert that the QueueFake contains the expected job or jobs after each `Batch::add()` call, alongside the existing event assertions.

2. Duplicate queued notifications go unnoticed✓ Resolved
Description
testNotificationCanBeQueued, its container-override counterpart, and the string-channel sender
test replace exact dispatch expectations with BusFake::assertDispatched(), which checks only that
a matching job exists. If any of these single-notification paths dispatches the job twice, its
converted test still passes.
The converted tests use uncounted existence assertions, whereas BusFake provides a separate
exact-count assertion. The sender dispatches a job inside its notifiable/channel loop, so an extra
iteration or dispatch is the regression these assertions no longer catch.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
Three converted single-notification tests accept duplicate queued jobs because their fake assertions check only for existence.
## Fix Focus Areas
- tests/Notifications/NotificationChannelManagerTest.php[289-315]
- tests/Notifications/NotificationSenderTest.php[224-235]
## Recommended Fix
Use `assertDispatchedOnce` or `assertDispatchedTimes` with a count of one in each single-job case.

3. The tap test misses skipped method calls 🐞 Bug⚙ Maintainability
Description
testTap now calls all() on an empty collection and checks only that the proxy returns that
collection. Because HigherOrderTapProxy::__call() returns its target independently of the invoked
method's result, the assertion passes even if the proxy stops forwarding the method call.
The prior mock required a method invocation. The replacement's return-value assertion cannot
distinguish a forwarded call from an implementation that simply returns the target.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
The replacement higher-order tap test does not establish that the proxy calls the target method.
## Fix Focus Areas
- tests/Support/SupportHelpersTest.php[865-870]
## Recommended Fix
Use a real object with a method that changes observable state, then assert both that the method ran and that the proxy returned the original object.

4. Release-delay assertion can crash instead of failing✓ Resolved
Description
FakeJob::$releaseDelay can now store a DateInterval or DateTimeInterface when the fake job's
own release() is called directly. Its message string interpolates the stored delay, and PHP builds
that string before assertSame runs. So if a test releases the fake directly with a date or
interval and then calls assertReleased($seconds), it stops with an "Object of class DateInterval
could not be converted to string" error. The test never reaches a readable assertion failure.
+ public DateInterval|DateTimeInterface|int $releaseDelay = 0;
Evidence
FakeJob::release() saves $delay exactly as given, so a date or interval is kept as an object.
InteractsWithQueue::assertReleased() builds its failure message with
"...[{$this->job->releaseDelay}] seconds.", and that string is built whenever a delay is given,
before the assertion is evaluated. Date and interval objects can't be converted to strings. Before
this PR, the same direct call threw a TypeError when the delay was assigned, so this path could not
be reached.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
Now that `FakeJob::$releaseDelay` can hold a DateInterval or DateTimeInterface, `assertReleased()` interpolates that object into its failure message. That throws an Error instead of producing an assertion failure.
## Fix Focus Areas
- src/queue/src/InteractsWithQueue.php[195-201]
## Recommended Fix
In `assertReleased()`, first compute `$actual = $this->secondsUntil($this->job->releaseDelay);`. Then use `$actual` in both the `assertSame` call and the failure message, so dates and intervals are compared as seconds and the message can always be built.

FakeJob now stores every delay its release() method accepts, but
InteractsWithQueue::assertReleased() still compared the stored value
directly with the expected number of seconds. When a test released the
fake job itself with a date or interval, building the failure message
threw an Error, because those objects cannot be converted to a string.
The assertion now converts the stored delay to seconds before
comparing it.
Add a regression test for a fake job released directly with an
interval. The interval tests in InteractsWithQueueTest now freeze the
clock, since converting an interval reads the current time twice and
could return 59 instead of 60 if the second changed between the reads.
Verified with php-cs-fixer, PHPStan and the test file.
…d tests
Several tests converted from mocks to event, bus and queue fakes lost
their exact-count checks. Their Mockery expectations had required a
single dispatch or push, but the converted assertDispatched(),
assertPushed() and assertPushedOn() calls only check that at least one
happened, so a duplicate dispatch would no longer fail them. Restore
assertDispatchedOnce() and assertPushedOnce() in the affected tests in
BusDispatcherTest, DatabaseConnectionTest, QueuedEventsTest,
NotificationChannelManagerTest, NotificationSenderTest and
RedisEventsTest.
The password verifier's magic-hash test checked for a 30-second
timeout, which is also the HTTP client's default, so it would pass even
if the verifier stopped sending its configured timeout. It now uses a
5-second timeout.
Verified with php-cs-fixer, PHPStan and the changed test files.
