…equest.duration Backends that build service views from the stable OTel HTTP conventions (New Relic APM "Required metrics are missing", Grafana, Datadog) could not use Bifrost's HTTP telemetry: the root span used deprecated keys and the pushed metrics were Prometheus-named only. Changes: - plugins/otel/ - record http.server.request.duration (unit s) with http.request.method, http.route and http.response.status_code alongside the existing metrics; http.route comes from the matched route template and is omitted for unmatched paths to keep cardinality bounded - transports/bifrost-http/handlers/middlewares.go - root span sets http.request.method, url.path, http.route, http.response.status_code and user_agent.original in place of http.method, http.url, http.status_code and http.user_agent - docs/features/observability/otel.mdx - list the new metric Closes maximhq#7438 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_0142Dg9KVmigiMtpjFoEKh6h

Summary
Bifrost's HTTP telemetry does not follow the stable OpenTelemetry HTTP semantic conventions, so semconv-driven backends cannot build service views from it. In New Relic, the OTel APM Summary for a Bifrost service shows "Required metrics are missing" because it needs
http.server.request.durationkeyed onhttp.request.methodandhttp.route. This PR emits that metric and moves the root HTTP span to the stable attribute names.Changes
plugins/otel:RecordHTTPMetricsalso recordshttp.server.request.duration(units) withhttp.request.method,http.routeandhttp.response.status_code. The existing Prometheus-named metrics are unchanged.http.routeis read from the matched route template on the request context (BifrostContextKeyHTTPRoute), and omitted when no route matched, so raw paths never become label values.RecordHTTPMetricssignature is unchanged, sotransportskeeps building against the currently pinnedplugins/otelversion.transports/bifrost-http/handlers/middlewares.go: the root span setshttp.request.method,url.path,http.route,http.response.status_codeanduser_agent.originalin place ofhttp.method,http.url,http.status_codeandhttp.user_agent.ctx.Path()instead ofctx.RequestURI(), so the query string no longer appears in span names.docs/features/observability/otel.mdx.Type of change

How to test
End to end, I built
bifrost-httpfrom this branch with a localgo.work, enabled the otel plugin withmetrics_enabled: true, and exported to a local OTLP sink. Observed output:I also exported the same build to New Relic's US OTLP endpoint (
/v1/tracesand/v1/metrics). Before this change the service's APM Summary showed "Required metrics are missing". With this build it renders throughput and latency. Note: that run needed"insecure": false, because the HTTP metrics exporter otherwise disables TLS for anhttps://endpoint (#7446).Screenshots/Recordings

Breaking changes
The root span no longer carries
http.method,http.url,http.status_codeorhttp.user_agent. Dashboards or queries keyed on those span attributes should switch tohttp.request.method,url.path(orhttp.route),http.response.status_codeanduser_agent.original.url.pathand the root span name exclude the query string, whichhttp.urland the old span name included. No metric names or labels change.Related issues
Closes #7438
Security considerations
url.pathreplaceshttp.url, and the root span name drops the query string, so query strings no longer land on the root span. That reduces the chance of tokens or PII in query parameters being exported.Checklist
