Background play not working properly

[AaronE4]

Background play doesnt work properly, it lags/stutters a lot and pauses itself constantly.
Applies to bogh turned on and turned off backgroundplay.

Android 17, GrapheneOS

I've also been having a lot of issues with background play. In general, lots of just stopping for no clear reason, but also a couple problems with specific triggers. When my screen is rotated to landscape, instead of portrait background play doesn't work at all. When switching to yt music mode, music will only play in the background if my screen is on. I'm using a zfold 7 if that makes a difference.

Can confirm. Background player stops on the beginning of every song, multimedia control in the notification area is also not present. It happens most of the time, but not always. Restarting the app can help in 1/5 times.

since i can't reproduce, it's difficult to find a fix. would be great if some of you can look into this with the help of AI, then send a PR like this #327

I'd love to help if you can be a little more specific about what to do. I'm not sure how to do any debugging or troubleshooting with or without the help of ai.

I will let you know that clearing my cache fixed most of the issues - aside from it still stopping background play whenever my screen rotates. So maybe that's a clue.

I would like to suggest that you check the settings of battery and optimization of battery for the app. This is because the battery configurations can severely affect the application's performance when it executes in the background. Experiment to disable the optimization of the battery for the app and enable the configuration to allow the application to execute in background plan.

ive already tried everything regarding battery optimizations and background usage, sadly nothing helped

I've already adjusted the battery optimization and background play settings to allow unrestricted play as well. But I'm wondering if AaronE4 tried clearing the cache because that really helped me a lot.
