Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • V4.1 Flash (41-q2) is now available on Macs with 96 GiB or more of RAM.
    • Macs with 96–255 GiB automatically use SSD streaming; performance may be slower because much of the model streams from disk.
    • Fresh installations from 96 GiB default to V4.1 Flash, while higher-memory systems retain appropriate model selections.
  • Documentation

    • Updated RAM requirements and memory-harness guidance to reflect the 96 GiB minimum and SSD-streaming behavior.

- flash41MinRamGiB drops 41-q2's floor from 128 to 96 GiB. Verified against the
pinned ds4 admission with the real Q2 weights (--memory-plan): a 96 GiB host with
the ~72 GiB Metal recommended set admits the streaming config with a 4,827-expert
cache at 32K ctx (3,638 at 1M), and rejects only below the 38.3 GiB fixed set.
- Fresh installs on 96 GiB now default to V4.1 Flash (q2, ctx 32,768); the popup
variant picker and Settings quant picker offer it from 96 GiB.
- 41-q4's 256 GiB floor and the 128 GiB Max Think floor are unchanged; README tier
table, AGENTS harness notes, and the harness header updated.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

V4.1 Flash 41-q2 now has a 96 GiB RAM floor for SSD streaming. Default selection, available variants, feasibility gates, tests, and memory documentation use the new threshold. The q4 and higher-memory thresholds remain unchanged.

Changes

V4.1 Flash 96 GiB Support

Layer / File(s) Summary
Lower the 41-q2 feasibility floor
Sources/DS4Control/Model/Feasibility.swift, Tests/DS4ControlTests/FeasibilityTests.swift
The 41-q2 floor changes from 128 GiB to 96 GiB. Feasibility tests cover SSD streaming, wired limits, context defaults, quantization fitting, and session capacity at 96 GiB.
Update variant selection and options
Sources/DS4Control/AppState.swift, Sources/DS4Control/Views/ModelRowView.swift, Tests/DS4ControlTests/AppStateTests.swift, Tests/DS4ControlTests/GUIHostOptionSourceTests.swift
Fresh installs from 96 GiB select V4.1 Flash. Systems from 96 GiB also offer the .flash41 variant.
Align memory guidance
README.md, AGENTS.md, scripts/flash41-mem-harness.sh
The RAM table and harness documentation identify 96 GiB as the lowest 41-q2 SSD-streaming tier. The harness documentation describes the DS41_LIMIT_GIB override.

On a 96 GiB Mac with a reduced effective wired-memory limit, Settings can offer V4.1 q2 but launching it is then rejected. Align the picker check with the launch gate before merging.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Compare required with wiredLimitMB. SettingsView passes effectiveWiredLimitMB to flash41QuantFits. At 96 GiB, a supplied limit below the streamed q2 working set can still return true because the function compares only with the RAM advisory. The launch path passes the same limit to feasibility, which returns .wiredLimitTooLow when it is below required. Use return required <= wiredLimitMB so quant selection matches the launch gate.
