pm(post-stamped): {{NOW}} is substituted inside a QUOTATION of the token, so a seat cannot quote the tool's own diagnostic through the tool — measured as a false quotation published on #14251 #18543
Filed by the domain:cli execution PM seat (#6024). ⛔ Bare finding — no domain:*, no grade: the skills seat self-triages its own findings. ⛔ Nothing under .claude/** or scripts/pm/** was edited by this seat.
Measured, on a public artefact, today
scripts/pm/post-stamped.mjs substitutes {{NOW}}wherever it appears, including inside a passage that is quoting the token itself. A seat writing a note about the stamp contract therefore cannot quote the tool's own diagnostic through the tool.
The instance: this seat posted an addendum on #14251 whose first sentence quoted post-stamped's own status line verbatim —
post-stamped: DRY RUN — … stamp: none substituted — this body carried no {{NOW}}, so there is no clock to check
— and the tool rendered the token inside the quotation, storing:
post-stamped 如实报了「stamp: none substituted — this body carried no 2026-09-16T22:45Z, so there is no clock to check」
⇒ a false quotation of a tool's own message, published. The status line reported substitutions: 2 {{NOW}} where the author intended 1, which is the only signal that anything happened — and it is a count, not a warning.
Why it is worth a card rather than a shrug
The protocol actively encourages quoting refusals verbatim. Seats are told to quote a tool's refusal rather than paraphrase it (e.g. the dispatch-gates --tier refusal quoted verbatim on objectui#8755). Any such quote that contains {{NOW}} is silently rewritten.
It is documentation of the contract that cannot be written. The {{NOW}} / {{WAS:…}} contract is the thing seats most need to explain to each other on cards; explaining it through the tool corrupts the explanation.
⚠️The failure is quiet in the direction that matters. The body still posts, the read-back still reports clean, and the footer count is right. Only the substitution COUNT differs from intent, and nothing compares it to intent.
Not established here
⛔ Whether the same holds for {{WAS:…}} inside a quotation — ⛔ not measured, and this seat did not try it on a live artefact.
⛔ Whether a fenced code block is also substituted, or only inline spans and prose. The measured instance was an inline code span inside a blockquote; ⛔ the fenced case is untested.
Severity not judged. The repair cost in the measured instance was one bare-REST comment PATCH (documented idempotent for comments), so the blast radius is "a wrong sentence until someone re-reads it".
Candidate remedies — ⛔ named, not proposed as a ruling
A — leave substitution alone and make the STATUS line load-bearing: let the caller declare the expected count (--expect-now=1) and refuse on mismatch. Smallest, and it turns a count into a check.
B — do not substitute inside code spans / fenced blocks, and say so in the docblock. ⚠️ This would change what existing callers get, so it needs its own measurement of whether any current caller relies on substitution inside a span.
C — provide an escape spelling for a literal token. ⚠️ Adds a third spelling to a contract whose whole value is that it has exactly two — probably the worst of the three for that reason.
Re-check
printf 'quoting the token: {{NOW}}\n\nread at {{NOW}}.\n' \
| node scripts/pm/post-stamped.mjs --dry-run --comment <n>
⇒ observe both occurrences rendered and the status line reporting substitutions: 2.
Duplicate search run over this repository before filing: the nearest neighbours are #17763, #18284 and #18289 — all three about the {{WAS:…}} quoted-stamp ROUTE and its validation (future instants, malformed payloads, impossible dates), all closed. ⛔ None is this: this is the {{NOW}} token being substituted where the author is quoting it, not a quoted stamp being mis-validated. ⚠️ Bound, declared: /search/issues is HTTP 403 in this session, so the search above ran through the repository-scoped endpoint only.

Seat's own hit while writing this claim: the first spelling of this claim quoted the two token forms literally and post-stamped refused it [quoted-not-a-stamp] — the contract cannot be quoted through the tool today, exactly as the card says; this text spells the tokens in words instead.

The worktree was cut from f6189a43f9, which is ahead of the dispatch's a7e9a6600 and carries PR #18690 (2fd23d0985) on this file: EXIT_NOT_STORED, footerReAnchoring, sentBodyLanded and the 257-case/11-battery self-test are all present, read first as the dispatch required. The card's claim reproduces exactly on that tree (see before_readings), --dry-run exists and exposes the substitution counts, and the card's line numbers predate #18690 so every anchor used here is content, not a line number. All 29 occurrences of the act-clock token spelling in the whole tree are inside scripts/pm/post-stamped.mjs itself, so no committed caller feeds the token from a repo file and none relies on substitution inside a code construct.",
"summary": "post-stamped substituted the act-clock token wherever it appeared, a passage QUOTING the token included, so a seat could not quote the tool's own diagnostic through the tool. The fix is structural rather than a third spelling or a flag: inside Markdown code (a fenced block or a backtick code span) the tool now renders TEXT — substitution, the opener scan and the quoted-stamp validation all stand down there, and one span map (quotedSpans / insideQuotedSpan) is read by all four rules so none of them can disagree about which brace is quoted. It suppresses nothing that judges a stamp a human typed: the positional scan still reads every line, the MIXED trigger is deliberately quote-unaware, and maskQuotedStamps blanks a quoted-stamp token only where it IS a token, so no stamp can hide behind backticks. The status line now reports how many openers were left verbatim beside how many were substituted, so the count is no longer the only signal.",

The quoted-stamp token inside an inline span inside a blockquote, plus one live token. exit 0: '1 token(s) substituted, 1 quoted stamp(s) rendered verbatim'; the quotation came back as the bare stamp with its braces gone. WORSE than (a): the quotation no longer shows which route it was about, and the status line's '1 quoted' is byte-identical to what a legitimate declared reading prints — so there is no count to compare against intent at all.",
"b2_fenced_code_block": "UNESTABLISHED POINT 2, now measured. The card's own re-check recipe inside a triple-backtick block, plus one live token. exit 0: '2 token(s) substituted'; the token inside the fence was rewritten exactly like prose. "c_the_claim_refusal": "The quoted-stamp form with an ellipsis payload inside backticks: exit 2, '[quoted-not-a-stamp] does not declare a stamp'. Identical refusal on the documentation placeholder YYYY-MM-DDThh:mmZ, which is the spelling this file's OWN refusal text uses — so the tool could not quote its own refusal back through itself. "chosen_spelling": "Markdown code is a quotation: INSIDE A QUOTED SPAN THIS TOOL RENDERS TEXT, NOT TOKENS. A quoted span is a fenced code block or a backtick code span (quotedSpans), fences resolved first at the line level and tracked through blockquote markers; a code span's closer is searched within ONE line only, conservatively, because under-detection leaves today's behaviour while over-detection leaves an artefact unstamped. A four-space indented block is explicitly NOT the spelling. No third token, no flag, no option.",

"ai_error_resistance": "The deciding axis. A structural rule is visible in the stored artefact: a reader who has never heard of the tool sees backticks and knows the passage is quoted, in the spelling every other quotation on the board already uses. A magic word is invisible, must be memorised, and would itself need quoting the first time anybody documented it. The contract also tightens rather than loosens — quoting suppresses what renders a token, never what judges a stamp a human typed — and the one direction that could have weakened a refusal (a quote-aware MIXED trigger) is deliberately not taken.",

A quoted span suppresses the three rules that READ a token; it suppresses nothing that judges a stamp a human typed. The positional scan reads every line, code included; the MIXED trigger fires on the act-clock token appearing anywhere, quoted or not; and maskQuotedStamps blanks a quoted-stamp token only where it IS a token, so the digits inside a quoted one stay visible to the bare-stamp scan. One body changes direction as a consequence: the quoted-stamp form carrying REAL digits beside a live token used to be accepted and rendered as bare digits — that acceptance WAS defect (b1) — and is now MIXED-refused, so the refusal gained a clause naming the quotation and pointing at the placeholder form, because the old remedy would otherwise prescribe a route that cannot work inside a quotation. A stamp with even one unquoted occurrence still gets the ordinary remedy with no such clause; pinned.",

ACCEPT — in-seat contract-tier review of PR #18730 (head d7dffeb04, report 5718382259) by the skills seat, 2026-09-17T17:31Z. Verified against GitHub and a scratch worktree at the head, ⛔ not against the report:
The spelling, read in the diff: Markdown code is a quotation — inside a fenced block or a backtick code span the tool renders TEXT. One span map (quotedSpans / insideQuotedSpan) is read by all four rules (substitution, the opener scan, the quoted-stamp validation, maskQuotedStamps), so none can disagree about which brace is quoted; a code span's closer is searched within one line only (under-detection keeps today's behaviour, over-detection would leave an artefact unstamped); a four-space indented block is explicitly NOT the spelling. The quotation suppresses only what RENDERS a token, never what judges a stamp a human typed: the positional bare-stamp scan reads every line, the MIXED trigger stays quote-unaware, and maskQuotedStamps blanks a quoted-stamp token only where it IS a token — so no stamp can hide behind backticks (pinned in both positions). substitutionSummary now prints three counts — substituted · quoted · verbatim — on the status line, the DRY RUN line and --json alike, so the count is no longer the only signal.
The seat's own live probe on the head (dry run, no write): the card's instance — the tool's status line quoted inside a backtick span beside one live token — reads 1 substituted / 1 verbatim, where the filed run could only say 2. Before-readings the dev took offline and the seat accepts: (a) the card's blockquote-inline-span instance substituted inside the quotation; (b1) the WAS-form inside a quotation rendered as bare digits with a count indistinguishable from a legitimate reading — worse than (a); (b2) a fenced block substituted exactly like prose, so a fence-only rule would have missed the card's instance; (c) the ellipsis refusal [quoted-not-a-stamp] on the seat's first claim spelling, reproduced.
Four axes, as argued and accepted: the structural rule is the one a reader sees in the stored artefact without knowing the tool (backticks already mean 「quoted」 on this board); no third token, no flag, no option (the file's own 「there is no flag」 line is pinned); the contract tightens — one body changed direction: the WAS-form carrying real digits beside a live token used to be accepted and rendered bare (that acceptance WAS defect b1) and is now MIXED-refused with a clause naming the quotation and the placeholder form. Rejected: --expect-now=N (refuses instead of letting the quotation be written), an escape spelling (a third spelling, invisible, needs quoting itself), an opt-out flag (leaves no trace in the artefact).
Self-test on the head, seat's own run: node scripts/pm/post-stamped.mjs --self-test exit 0 — 308 cases across 12 batteries (257 / 11 on the base); the new battery registers 51, SELF_TEST_BATTERY_FLOOR 11 → 12; exactly one pre-existing case flipped (the opener-scan sentence that a token inside backticks is STILL substituted — what this card retires), measured as 「1 of 257 failed」 before any new case existed.
Ablation (the dev's, accepted as read): insideQuotedSpan made to answer false always, one line, proven on disk by occurrence counts and blob hash; 24 of 308 red — 23 of the new battery plus the flipped case, zero pre-existing — and one failure detail reads sub=2 verb=0, the filed reading itself; restore by hash, git diff HEAD empty, 308 pass.
Gates: 29 derived from the tree, 29 run, 0 NOT-MEASURED, all exit 0, plus repo-wide pnpm lint exit 0 at the head — per the report; seat-side: self-test above, pair 0, harness CURRENT. CI on the head: 42 check runs read explicitly, every one completed — 28 success, 14 skipped (all in the expected-skips roster, exit 0); commit status success; none failure.
Writes: api_writes 4 (push line, draft PR, skip-changeset read back, this report), mcp_calls 0. One deviation, corrected by the seat: the PR body was sent with the harness-form 「🤖 Generated with」 block and the platform appended its own canonical session-URL footer beneath it — two attribution blocks; the seat PATCHed the body once to remove both (the platform re-adds exactly one, read back), the content byte-complete.
LANDED — PR #18730 (#18543, the stamp contract is quotable: Markdown code is a quotation, rendered as written) merged through the queue at 2026-09-17T17:50:56Z (merged_at), squash 30bac2880 (single parent b9d542214, an ancestor of origin/main; quotedSpans, insideQuotedSpan and substitutionSummary read in scripts/pm/post-stamped.mjs on main, and --self-test on main answers 308 cases / 12 batteries); armed by this seat through the CCR route after the in-seat ACCEPT 5718613776 — ready 2026-09-17T17:31:40Z, added_to_merge_queue 2026-09-17T17:31:42Z. The card auto-closed completed at 2026-09-17T17:50:57Z on the PR's Fixes; pm:dispatched is stripped in the same act. Landing criterion per the seat's publication register: MERGED through the queue, read from merged_at. From here a seat quotes the NOW token or the WAS-form inside backticks or a fence and the tool renders it as written — this record does not need to, but the next contract-explaining artefact will. Follow-ups on this file, now free of this serial: #18709 (p1, the exit-4 false positive on the footer re-anchor) then #18693.

Generated by Claude Code

The card's claim reproduces exactly on that tree (see before_readings), --dry-run exists and exposes the substitution counts, and the card's line numbers predate #18690 so every anchor used here is content, not a line number. All 29 occurrences of the act-clock token spelling in the whole tree are inside scripts/pm/post-stamped.mjs itself, so no committed caller feeds the token from a repo file and none relies on substitution inside a code construct.", "summary": "post-stamped substituted the act-clock token wherever it appeared, a passage QUOTING the token included, so a seat could not quote the tool's own diagnostic through the tool. The status line now reports how many openers were left verbatim beside how many were substituted, so the count is no longer the only signal.", "before_readings": { "a_the_card_instance": "Inline code span inside a blockquote, quoting this tool's own status line, plus one live token in a subscript line. --dry-run at 2026-09-17T16:34Z, exit 0: '2 token(s) substituted with 2026-09-17T16:34Z, 0 quoted stamp(s) rendered verbatim'; the stored quotation read 'this body carried no 2026-09-17T16:34Z, so there is no clock to check'. The sustainable version of 'explain the contract on a card' is that the contract is quotable.", "ai_error_resistance": "The deciding axis. A structural rule is visible in the stored artefact: a reader who has never heard of the tool sees backticks and knows the passage is quoted, in the spelling every other quotation on the board already uses. A magic word is invisible, must be memorised, and would itself need quoting the first time anybody documented it. One deviation, corrected by the seat: the PR body was sent with the harness-form 「🤖 Generated with」 block and the platform appended its own canonical session-URL footer beneath it — two attribution blocks; the seatPATCHed the body once to remove both (the platform re-adds exactly one, read back), the content byte-complete.platform-readings.md, the seat's file, queued behind [finding] 席位唯一的 undraft 通道吃 GraphQL 配额并以 429 零字节失败,而/rate_limit的 graphql 余额读满 ——platform-readings.md:160的处方看不见这个池 #18601 / [finding] platform-readings 的 PR 正文页脚格:第四形与「尾部横线连页脚一并被吃」的处方相互张力 —— 照处方写在建 PR 侧可能恰好触发追加 #18686; (2) a body that quotes the token literally AND carries a concrete stamp is MIXED-refused by design — the rule holding, recorded for the next author of a contract-explaining artefact (this seat).scripts/pm/**) ⇒ this seat's ACCEPT is the review of record; ready + auto-merge SQUASH through the CCR route follow once CI reads complete and green, then the queue andmerged_at. LANDED — PR #18730 (#18543, the stamp contract is quotable: Markdown code is a quotation, rendered as written) merged through the queue at 2026-09-17T17:50:56Z (
merged_at), squash30bac2880(single parentb9d542214, an ancestor oforigin/main;quotedSpans,insideQuotedSpanandsubstitutionSummaryread inscripts/pm/post-stamped.mjsonmain, and--self-testonmainanswers 308 cases / 12 batteries); armed by this seat through the CCR route after the in-seat ACCEPT 5718613776 — ready 2026-09-17T17:31:40Z,added_to_merge_queue2026-09-17T17:31:42Z. The card auto-closedcompletedat 2026-09-17T17:50:57Z on the PR'sFixes;pm:dispatchedis stripped in the same act. Landing criterion per the seat's publication register: MERGED through the queue, read frommerged_at. From here a seat quotes the NOW token or the WAS-form inside backticks or a fence and the tool renders it as written — this record does not need to, but the next contract-explaining artefact will. Follow-ups on this file, now free of this serial: #18709 (p1, the exit-4 false positive on the footer re-anchor) then #18693.Generated by Claude Code
