Welcome,

At this time, this is more of an experimental place for me to learn more about Github and how I can integrate it in with various hobbies, upgrading my skills with micropython, javascript, JSON, XML and BASH scripting and making things with electronics, RPi and Adruino based projects.

While I am looking for employment, I have a list of skills being asked for in the job postings and have taken it upon myself to learn more about them.

Here are a couple of things I am loooking at:

  • IT Security from a general perspective, methodologies and forensics.

  • AI and it's many branches to be familiar enough that I understand when it is being talked about and to identify places I can learn more on specific areas when I find I need the knowledge.

  • GIT hub and its inner workings

  • Robotics, from the henki-robotics/robotics_essentials_ros2.git site. Like many people I have been curious about it since I was in highschool with no funds to buy the materials to experiment with so now I have the time and small stock of new and used parts, think recovering roombas that people have thrown away, to play. This course has been interesitng so far and I find it's virtual environment a great place to play. I have a small car I had been experimenting with before moving to another country, it was only 6 years after moving here that we found the box it and other electronic parts and tools were MIA so I now have a platform to physically work with as well.

  • IoT, broad topic that fits in with my curiosity and electronics background. I have experimented a bit with a hamster wheel and have started putting ideas together to help control the heat and blinds in the house from a schedule and with various sensors I have collected over the years.

I have been looking at jobs outside my IT background where robotics, automation and assembly line control systems have become an interest. To that end, I believe learning more about control systems, robotics and how systems integrate will bring me one step closer to working in that field.

Projects I have been working on when I need a break from the job search are:

  • An exercise tracking gadget that integrates with a hamster wheel to collect data on her exercise habbits. For this I used a pico 2W, small display, magnets, reed switches and some creative micropython to display current information like distances, time and speed and twl VMs to receive the information and publish it to a MariaDB server hosted on a retired QNAP NAS where I planned to brush up my skills pushing data to a website for family and friends to see. Unfortunatly, Lilo died before I got to attaching the mechanism to her wheel so it is sitting in a project box waiting for me to get back to it.

  • A Haloween prop that will mimic one of those sliding peepholes you see in the movies. The idea is to integrate version of the Adafruit eyes bonnet, two tft displays, a light sensor, a couple of IR motion sensors, a couple of servos and the peephole. The general idea to open the peephole when motion is detected then through some logic for the eyes to follow the person as they walk past, have the pupils react to light should they shine a flashlight at it and maybe wink if they stay in one spot for too long. A stretch goal would be to trigger a voice to say a few random things.

  • Automated car that can be driven from a cellphone with a goal to eventually have it drive itself around.

  • an ultrasonic obsticle detector with the sensor, a servo and an Arduino that will eventually sit on the car I mentioned earlier so it can drive around the house without running into something.

  • The home automation

  • Helping my daughter with her dreams to be an influencer.

There are several others that I have ideas about but to try and keep my desk clean, I jot them down in a notebook for later, just waiting for me to finish the ones I have already started.

Now you knmow a little more about me. With employment being my main focus right now, don't expect great works of art here and probably not many new insights to things but as I said, the plan is to learn more about the GIT platform as another tool in my belt when applying for jobs.
