docs: fix reference docs and rustdoc contracts - #200

Correct the Rust 1.89 requirement, complete the feature matrix, document rm_newline and configuration precedence, fix syntax examples and links, and make API error contracts match the implementation. Also convert the crate-level example into a passing doctest. Validated with cargo test, rustdoc -D warnings, and strict MkDocs build.
