Send text from Flow Launcher to Claude Desktop via the claude:// deep link.
The repository is named Flow.Launcher.Plugin.ClaudeDesktop to match the Flow Launcher plugin-naming convention.
In Flow Launcher it appears under the display name Claude Desktop with the action keyword claude.
This plugin for Flow Launcher lets you type a message into Flow Launcher and open it as a new chat in the Claude Desktop app, via the claude:// URL scheme. It's a single-file, dependency-free plugin — no packages to install, just Python's standard library.
- Flow Launcher — runs the plugin with its own bundled embeddable Python; no system Python needed just to use the plugin.
- Claude Desktop installed and registered as the handler for the
claude://URL scheme (done automatically on install). - mise, only if installing from source (see below).
-
Clone or download this repository.
-
Deploy it into Flow Launcher's Plugins directory using the
misetask:mise run deploy
This runs
scripts/deploy.ps1, which copies (not symlinks) the plugin folder to:%APPDATA%\FlowLauncher\Plugins\Flow.Launcher.Plugin.ClaudeDesktop\ -
Restart Flow Launcher (right-click the tray icon → Exit, then relaunch).
None. main.py only uses Python's standard library (json, os, sys, urllib.parse).
Open Flow Launcher, type the action keyword (claude, by default) followed by your message, then press Enter:
claude Explain monads using only food metaphors
The plugin URL-encodes the text and launches claude://claude.ai/new?q=<text>, which Claude Desktop opens as a new chat.
Issues and pull requests are welcome at the project repository.
Before opening a PR:
- Keep changes focused; describe the user-facing behaviour change in the PR body.
- Match the existing code style (PEP 8 with the conventions already present in
main.py). - If the change affects user-visible behaviour, update the Usage section above.
